Men's Soccer Kicks Off With 7-1 Win
Sophomore Bret Brennan tallies three goals and an assist

ROCKY MOUNT, NC-  The Monarchs offense poured in on Saturday with the 7-1 victory over Mt. St. Vincent in the first game of the N.C. Wesleyan Fall Classic. Methodist took a 3-0 lead at halftime before finishing with four additional goals in the second half. The Monarchs start the season 1-0 while Mt. St. Vincent falls to 0-1.

Senior Dustin Breckenridge opened the scoring off a deflection from sophomore Bret Brennan. Brennan followed with one of his own just 21 seconds later on the assist from freshman Alex Johnston. Just two minutes later junior Jamie Gunderson finished the goal on the cross and flick from juniors Sean Gregory and Evan Monteiro.

Mt. St. Vincent scored early in the second half, but the Monarchs countered with four unanswered goals. Junior Mike DeMara capitalized on a defender deflection for Methodist's fourth goal and Brennan followed up with a goal on senior C.J. Komon's rebound. Brennan completed the hat trick on the assist from senior Andy White before freshman Freddy Garcia scored the first goal of his career from DeMara's deflection.

The Monarchs outshot Mt. St. Vincent 33-4 in the win. Senior Sean Brennan and freshman Brock Ferguson split time in goal for Methodist to earn the win.

Tomorrow the Monarchs will take on Randolph College at 11 am.
