September 8, 2007 GREENSBORO, NC- The Monarchs remain undefeated after a 3-0 win over Oglethorpe in the first day of the Doug Hamilton Memorial Tournament hosted by Greensboro College. Methodist moves to 3-0 on the season while Oglethorpe is 1-2-1 this year. Junior Mike DeMara scored first for the Monarchs in the first twenty minutes of the game. DeMara capitalized on Oglethorpe keeper Chase Hammond's fumble and put away the shot for the 1-0 lead. The score was deadlocked until senior C.J. Komons scored on a header from a deflection to give the Monarchs a 2-0 lead with less than 12 minutes remaining. Senior Andy White finished it off with a hard finish to the left corner on the assist from DeMara. Senior Sean Brennan finished with six saves on the day to earn the shutout while Hammond and Sean Fernandes combined for two saves for Oglethorpe. Photo courtesy of Pattie Komons |
