Shenandoah
WINCHESTER,

Aiming
to keep
some
needed
momentum
in the
race for
the USA
South
Athletic
Conference
men’s
soccer
championship,
the
Methodist
Monarchs
picked
up their
first
road
victory
of the
2005
season
on
Saturday
with a
thrilling
2-1
victory
at
Shenandoah.
The
victory
lifts
Methodist
to 4-7-1
overall,
but also
2-0 in
the USA
South.
The
Monarchs
trailed
1-0 at
halftime
when
Shenandoah’s
William
Phouminh
scored
in the
44th
minute
off an
assist
by Jace
Kenny.
However,
Methodist
tied the
game in
the 63rd
minute
when
Chris
MacDonald
hammered
in a
20-yard
shot off
the
cross
bar for
the
goal.
Four
minutes
later,
the
Monarchs’
Jimmy
Izaguirre
scored
what
proved
to be
the
game-winner
on a
penalty
kick. It
was
Izaguirre’s
second
penalty
kick
goal of
the
season.
Methodist
goalkeeper
Jeremy
Belnap
recorded
two
saves in
the
victory.
