October 13, 2007 WINCHESTER, VA- The Methodist men's soccer team prevented overtime with a goal in the 90th minute to defeat Shenandoah 2-1 on Friday afternoon. The Monarchs move to 8-6 overall and 2-2 in the USA South while Shenandoah drops to 3-13 this year and 0-4 in the conference. Junior Evan Monteiro gave the Monarchs a 1-0 lead with a little more than six minutes to go in the first half on the assist from junior Mike DeMara. Shenandoah tied the game in the 80th minute on a shot from 25 yards out, but Methodist kept pushing forward. With just 48 seconds to go in the game, DeMara connected with senior Andy White for the game-winning goal. Methodist goalkeeper Sean Brennan preserved the win with a save in the final seconds. The Monarchs out shot Shenandoah 10-5 with Brennan making two saves in the win. Methodist will play at Gallaudet Saturday at 4 pm. |
