In a short time, Justin Terranova is fast on his way to returning the Methodist University men's soccer program back to the greatness that he enjoyed during his playing days with the Monarchs as a standout goalkeeper from 1992-1995.

In his six years back at Methodist, Terranova has recorded five winning seasons, notching his 50th win on October 11, 2006 over St. Mary's College of Maryland.  His .592 winning percentage ranks him third on the list of men's soccer coaches in more than forty years of competition.

During the 2007 season, the Monarchs finished 13-7-1 advancing to the USA South Athletic Conference Championship after a 1-0 upset of #2 seed Christopher Newport University. In 2006, the Monarchs jumped out to a 10-1 start, the best in ten years.  The team was ranked as high as sixth in the South region and advanced to the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals before falling to rival Christopher Newport.

The 2002 season marked the initial campaign under the direction of Terranova, and he guided the Monarchs to an 11-7-2 mark, including 3-3-1 in the Dixie Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Monarchs advanced to the DIAC Tournament, only to fall in penalty kicks against DIAC regular season champion Christopher Newport. The 11-7-2 mark was the first winning season and the first double-digit victory season for Methodist since 1996.

In the 2003 season, the Monarchs followed it with a 10-7-1 mark, including a 4-3 mark in the USA South Athletic Conference. Although Methodist missed qualifying for the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament, the Monarchs succeeded against one of the nation's tougher schedules. The highlight was a thrilling 2-0 victory at home over 10th-ranked Greensboro.

The Monarchs finished 11-6-2 overall and received its first regional ranking since the 1995 season in 2004. In addition, Methodist advanced to the championship game of the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament for the first time ever, losing to nationally-ranked North Carolina Wesleyan.  Terranova challenged his team in 2005 with a tough schedule, but the Monarchs still advanced to the conference tournament semifinals before falling to North Carolina Wesleyan.

Overall, Terranova has posted a 66-44-9 mark at Methodist. In addition, 39 Monarchs have garnered All-Conference honors under his watch.

Terranova returned to Methodist after serving as an assistant for four seasons at NCAA Division I Old Dominion under his mentor - former Methodist head coach Alan Dawson. Terranova's main duties at Old Dominion included coaching goalkeepers, plus assisting with administrative and recruiting duties. Professionally, he was a member of the 1996 Connecticut Wolves of the A-League and in 1995 he was the starting goalkeeper for the Nashville Metros of the Premier Division and finished the season with a 12-7 record.

As a player under Dawson, Terranova co-captained the 1995 squad that reached the NCAA Division III National Championship game. Methodist earned four Dixie Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships and four NCAA Division III National Tournament appearances in Terranova’s four years between the pipes.

Terranova, who graduated with a bachelor’s degree in political science with a physical education minor, is also prominent in the Monarch men’s soccer records book. He finished his career with an 0.67 goals against average and his 37 career shutouts are both school records. He also holds the single-season goals allowed average record of 0.42.

Terranova has an Advanced National Diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and currently holds a "A" License from the United States Soccer Federation. He is the former Director of Coaching and Player Development for Chesapeake Select Soccer Club and former assistant coach for the Virginia Youth Soccer Association Olympic Development Program team. Terranova now reaches out in the local soccer community, serving as Head Coach for the '92 Fayetteville Soccer Club Force Premier, the Youth Academy Director for FSC and the Director of Coaching for the Boys FSC Teams ages 11 through 14.

Justin and Jeannette Terranova were married on May 5, 2001 in Norfolk, Va. Jeannette is also a graduate of Methodist and a former cheerleader. She captained the 1998 team that finished third at the NCA National Championship. They are proud parents of a son, Samuel Pierce, born on March 28, 2004 and Olivia Kay born April 15, 2008.
