Monarchs turned back by St. Mary’s in 4-0 defeat

ST. MARY’S CITY, Md. –
The offensive bad luck for the Methodist Monarch soccer team continued on Saturday as the Monarchs fell 4-0 at St. Mary’s in a non-conference game. Methodist, which falls to 0-4-1 overall, has now gone scoreless in four consecutive games.

Like previous games, the opportunities were plenty for the Monarchs. Methodist actually out-shot St. Mary’s 28-19 overall and 13-9 in shots on goal. But the play of St. Mary’s goalkeeper Greg Kamerow was the difference. The Seahawks’ keeper recorded a whopping 13 saves against a constant Methodist attack.

St. Mary’s (5-2), meanwhile, rode two goals by Nathaniel Graham offensively. The Seahawks took a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute on a goal by Graham off an assist by Jean Paul Coves. The Seahawks increased the lead to 2-0 in the 38th minute on a score by Peter Krech on a Joe McKenna assist. In the second half, Graham struck again with a goal in the 57th minute off an assist by David Reumont.

Alex Pyzik finished the St. Mary’s scoring with a goal in the 80th minute.

Methodist goalkeepers Jeremy Belnap and Sean Marable combined for five saves.

Methodist plays host to neighboring NCAA Division II rival UNC-Pembroke on Thursday at 4 p.m.
