Men's Soccer Defeats St. Mary's 3-0
Andy White and Chris MacDonald score for Methodist

FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The Monarchs took a step out of conference play to face the Seahawks of St. Mary's College of Maryland.  Methodist did not waste any time getting on the board with the eventual game-winner in the 6th minute.  Methodist moves to 11-2-1 overall and St. Mary's falls to 4-7.

Forward Andy White took on the keeper early and slotted it past him far post for the first goal of the game.  The referees were calling the game tight and in the 43rd minute St. Mary's received a red card forcing them to play a man down the remainder of the game.  The Monarchs were leading 1-0 at halftime and came back in the second with renewed offense.  In the 57th minute,
Evan Monteiro had the ball on the left side of the goal and attempted to cross it to the top of the six-yard box when a St. Mary's defender deflected the ball into his own net for the Monarchs' goal.  Nearly twenty minutes later, Brandon Cunningham received the ball on the sideline and passed it into Chris MacDonald who finished it easily.

The Monarchs seemed to dominate possession, but were outshot 10 to 7.  Methodist goalkeeper Jeremy Belnap made 5 saves while St. Mary's keeper Rick Besore had 1.

The Monarchs will host Shenandoah on Saturday, October 14th at 12 pm.  The conference game will mark the last home game for four Methodist seniors.
