FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. –
The USA South Athletic Conference released its 2005 preseason men’s soccer poll on Wednesday, and the Methodist Monarchs were picked third in the seven-team race. Methodist received 25 points in the poll taken by the head men’s soccer coaches in the USA South.

The Monarchs were picked behind defending USA South champion North Carolina Wesleyan, which was picked as the preseason favorite with 35 points and five first place votes, and Christopher Newport with 30 points and two first place votes. Greensboro was picked fourth with 24 points, followed by Shenandoah (16), Ferrum (10) and Averett (seven).

Head coach Justin Terranova enters his fourth season at Methodist, and the Monarchs return seven starters off last season’s team that finished 11-6-2 overall and advanced to the USA South Tournament Championship game. Methodist opens the 2005 season with the North Carolina Wesleyan Invitational on Sept. 3-4.
