Monarchs Defeat Villa Julie to Move to 4-0 at Home
Two goals in first fifteen minutes enough to hold off Mustangs

FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  Barely six minutes into the game sophomore Brandon Cunningham took a corner kick that went off senior Jimmy Izaguirre's head and rolled off senior Chris MacDonald's head to score for the Monarchs.  The play went back and forth before settling down and Methodist defeated Villa Julie 2-1.  The Monarchs improve to 5-1 while Villa Julie falls to 4-3 on the season.

Less than four minutes after MacDonald's goal, the Villa Julie Mustangs countered off of a goal from Scott Andrzejewski after a cross came in from Jon Salbeck.  With the score tied, there was a scuffle in the box and the official called a foul on Villa Julie to set up a penalty kick for Izaguirre.  He set it up and struck it home to give the Monarchs the 2-1 lead.

In the first half, Methodist led 11-4 on shots before Villa Julie came back out and both teams took 9 shots in the second.  Villa Julie goalkeeper Adam Wiatrowski finished with 12 saves while Monarch keeper Jeremy Belnap had 4.

The Monarchs will travel to Chowan on Wednesday to face the Hawks at 4 pm.
