March 3, 2008 FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The USA South has announced their athletes of the week. The conference gives an award for Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week for each sport active during the week. Chris Fletcher has been named the USA South Men's Tennis Player of the Week. The New Castle, New Hampshire senior was 2-0 at both number-one singles and doubles last week for the Monarchs. Fletcher earned straight-set singles wins over top players from Oglethorpe and Sewanee. In doubles action, Fletcher teamed with Matthew Taylor to earn both victories. Tiffany Tucker has been selected as the USA South Women's Tennis Player of the Week. The Circleville, Ohio senior is 4-1 at number-one singles and 3-1 at the top doubles spot so far this season for the Monarchs. Three of the four singles victories for Tucker have been of the straight-set variety. Her only loss of the season came at the hands of the 12th-ranked player in the region. In doubles play, she has teamed with Jenny Smith to earn wins over top teams from Fayetteville State, Misericordia and St. Mary's (MD). Kaitlin Flaherty has been named the USA South Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week. The League City, Texas freshman is 3-1 at number-two singles and 4-1 in the doubles action so far this season for the Monarchs. In her three singles victories, her opponents have combined to earn just ten total games. Her only loss of the season came at the hands of the 20th-ranked player in the region. In doubles play, she has teamed with Leighton Bull to to 3-1 at number-two doubles and 1-0 at number-one doubles. Hannah Stutts has been named the USA South Softball Rookie Pitcher of the Week. The freshman from Statesville, North Carolina earned a complete-game victory in her only appearance for the Monarchs last week. Stutts tossed seven innings, giving up one run on five hits with two walks and 13 strikeouts as Methodist defeated Frostburg State, 5-1.
