April 15, 2007 BURLINGTON, NC- The USA South championship was a rematch from earlier this season between Methodist and Averett. Averett dealt the Monarchs their only conference loss this season, but Methodist prevailed on Sunday with a 5-2 win over the Cougars. Methodist improves to 11-8 overall while Averett finishes 10-7 on the season. With heavy rain outside, the championship match was moved indoors, but the Monarchs adjusted quickly taking a 3-0 lead after doubles. The men needed just two wins in singles competition to secure the victory, but only four matches could go at a time. Averett earned wins at number two and three singles while number one and four went into a third set. Juniors Louis Cisti (No. 5) and Matthew Siegel (No. 6) started their matches when two and three completed. Both players took quick wins in two sets 6-0, 6-0. The other two singles went unfinished as the result was determined giving Methodist the 5-2 win and the USA South Tournament Championship.
