April 12, 2008 NEWPORT NEWS , VA- The Methodist men's tennis team dropped their final regular season conference match to Christopher Newport 9-0 on Saturday. Methodist moves to 7-7 overall and 5-1 in the USA South while Christopher Newport is 15-3 overall and 5-0 in the conference. Senior Chris Fletcher and freshman Matthew Taylor pushed the number one doubles match to 9-7 but lost. Sophomore Jarrod Bogard and freshman Tariq Sheikh lost 8-2 at number two while sophomore Dylan Knox and junior Rob Currier lost 8-2 at number three. Fletcher won the first set at number one singles 6-1 but lost the next two for John Mook to win 7-5, 6-3. Sheikh lost 6-1, 6-2 at number two while Knox lost 6-1, 6-4 at number four. Taylor pushed the number three singles match to three sets with a win in the second set but lost 6-3, 4-6, 6-1. Bogard lost 7-5, 6-1 at number five and freshman Justin Campbell lost 6-0, 6-3 at number six. The Monarchs will host Roanoke on Sunday at 11 am. |
