Five straight! Monarchs return to action with 4-3 thriller over Dickinson
Doubles point key as Methodist improves to 6-2 overall

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Thirteen days between tennis matches was a long lay-off for the Methodist Monarch men’s tennis team, but that didn’t stop it from continuing its winning ways on Friday. The Monarchs edged Dickinson 4-3 at Monarch Courts.

The victory was the fifth straight for Methodist, which improves to 6-2 overall.

Methodist split the six singles matches as Chris Fletcher (No. 1), Mike Layton (No. 2) and Matt Siegel (No. 6) posted victories for the Monarchs. Fletcher downed Dickinson’s Rob Isaac 6-1, 6-1, while Layton also on a 6-1, 6-1 decision over Whit McFarlane from Dickinson. It was a thriller at No. 6, where Siegel outlasted Brent Shoemaker 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.

A key was the doubles point, in which Methodist swept the three matches for the point.
