October 2, 2007 FREDERICKSBURG, VA- The Methodist men's tennis team competed in the Wilson ITA Southeast Regional Men's Tennis Championship at Mary Washington this past weekend. A number of players traveled to Fredericksburg for their lone event this fall. In the final day of the tournament, Chris Fletcher finished playing in the championship singles draw. Fletcher advanced to the semifinals on Sunday with a win over number 1 seeded John James. In the semifinal match Fletcher faced off against Casey Blythe. After dropping the first set 3-6, Fletcher won the next two 6-0, 6-3 to advance to the finals against the number 2 seed, David Maldow. Fletcher took the first set 1-6, but lost the second 6-3. The third set ended 7-6, but Lohen won the tiebreaker to win the match. Fletcher finished the singles competition 5-1 for the weekend. The Monarchs will open the spring season February 23 hosting Maryville College. |
