Criscoe falls in first round
of
National Championship
Senior finishes at 16-6 on
the season
FREDERICKSBURG, VA- Methodist
Senior Keith Criscoe fell
Saturday in the first round
of the NCAA singles tennis
championship hosted by the
University of Mary
Washington. Criscoe
was defeated 6-2, 6-1 by Dan
Greenberg from Williams.
Criscoe finished his season
with a 16-6 individual
record. Greenberg
advances to the second
round, improving to 13-6.

their winning streak snapped as they
dropped a close 5-4 decision

Sewanee on Saturday morning.
The Monarchs (13-3)
rebounded to beat
Mississippi College 5-1
later Saturday afternoon.

The Monarchs swept all six

(2), Mike Layton (3), David
Hardy (4), Matthew Siegel
(5), and Greg Morgan (6)
were each victorious.
Fletcher swept his match
6-0, 6-0 and the Monarchs
combined to win 72 of the 83
singles games.

Thirteen days between tennis
matches was a long lay-off
for the Methodist Monarch
men’s tennis team, but that
didn’t stop it from
continuing its winning ways
on Friday. The Monarchs
edged Dickinson 4-3 at
Monarch Courts. The victory
was the fifth straight for
Methodist, which improves to
6-2 overall. Methodist split
the six singles matches as
Chris Fletcher (No. 1), Mike
Layton (No. 2) and Matt
Siegel (No. 6) posted
victories for the Monarchs.

week, the Methodist Monarchs

Monarchs’ Keith Crsicoe was

the Week, while teammate Sam
Miller was selected USA
South Rookie of the Week.
This is the second straight
week that Miller received
Rookie of the Week honors,
while Criscoe received
Player of the Week honors
for the first time this

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. –
Defeating nationally-ranked
teams was a key for the
Methodist Monarch men’s
tennis team in terms of a
possible NCAA Division III
National Tournament bid. On
Saturday, the Monarchs took
that step with a thrilling
5-2 victory over 30th-ranked
Johns Hopkins at the Monarch
Courts. Methodist has now
won four straight to improve
to 5-2 overall. The
headlining match was at No.
1 singles where Methodist’s
Keith Criscoe, ranked 12th
in the Division III Atlantic
South Region, battled
17th-ranked Joe Vasoontara
from Johns Hopkins. The
match went to Criscoe as he
defeated Vasoontara 6-4,
6-1.

Wesleyan at the Monarch
Courts. The Monarchs
improved to 4-2 overall and

straight sets. In addition,

Despite some near-frigid
temperatures, the Methodist
Monarch men’s tennis team
opened the home portion of
the 2006 season on Sunday a
sweep over both North
Carolina Central and
Hampden-Sydney. The Monarchs
defeated North Carolina
Central 8-1 and
Hampden-Sydney 7-1 at
Monarch Courts. The sweep
improved the Monarchs to 3-2
overall on the season.

Carolina Invitational
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. –
The USA South Athletic
Conference released its 2006
preseason poll for men’s
tennis on Wednesday, and the
Methodist Monarchs were
selected as the preseason
favorite in the seven-team
race. Methodist received 36
points and six first-place
votes, out-distancing second
place Christopher Newport
with 30 points and one
first-place vote. Methodist
opens the 2006 season this
weekend at the Coastal
Carolina Invitational.
