![]() Methodist hires Luck as new men’s tennis coach FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Methodist College athletic director Bob McEvoy announced on Wednesday the hiring of Edward Luck as the Monarchs’ new men’s tennis head coach. Luck, who may also teach in the Methodist Professional Tennis Management Program, officially starts his position on Aug. 1. "Coach Luck brings a wealth of experience to our men’s tennis program," said McEvoy. "I look forward to working with him as he moves our program to new heights." Luck brings tremendous knowledge and experience to Methodist. The Ramseur, N.C., native served previously at NCAA Division II Ferris State in Big Rapids, Mich., for eight seasons as women’s head coach and four seasons as head coach of the men’s team. During his time at Ferris State, Luck paced both teams to national prominence. He posted a 54-19 mark with two Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships from 1993-1996 with the men’s program, while leading the women’s program to 136-40 mark with eight straight GLIAC championships from 1993-2000. Luck is winningest women’s head coach at Ferris State, and a three-time GLIAC Women’s Coach of the Year. Prior to his success at Ferris State, Luck served as a graduate assistant at South Carolina, serving under veteran head coach Arlo Elkins. He played three seasons at Campbell University and one season at Ferris State. Luck received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Marketing from Ferris State in 1989 and has completed work towards his MAT in Social Studies and History from South Carolina in 1992. He is a certified P1 Tennis Professional by the USPTA (United States Professional Tennis Association). Luck inherits a Methodist program that’s proven dominant in recent seasons in the USA South Athletic Conference. He replaces Mike Roberts, who paced the Monarchs to 32-10 mark over the last three seasons with three conference regular season championships and one conference tournament championship. In conference play, Methodist was an impressive 18-1. "The opportunity to get back into coaching and work in a professional tennis management program made Methodist a great fit," said Luck. "This is a great opportunity. Methodist has dominated the conference in recent seasons, and the possibilities are tremendous for the program to contend both a regional and national level. "I’m really looking forward to getting back into the college ranks." |
