Monarchs Fall to Mount Olive
Senior Chris Fletcher earns a win at singles

MOUNT OLIVE, NC-  The Methodist men's tennis team opened the 2008 spring season against Division II member Mount Olive College. The men dropped the match 1-8 and start the season 0-1 while Mount Olive moves to 1-2 this year.

Senior Chris Fletcher and freshman Matthew Taylor lost a close 8-5 at number one doubles while sophomore Andrew Fletcher and freshman Tariq Sheik lost at number two 8-3. Junior Rob Campbell and freshman Justin Campbell lost 8-2 at number three.

Recently ranked 14th in Division III singles across the country, Chris Fletcher won the number one singles match in two sets at 7-6 (8-6), 6-3. Sheikh lost at number two 6-2, 6-1 while Taylor was defeated 6-3, 6-0. Sophomore Dylan Knox dropped one at number four 6-3, 6-2 and Andrew Fletcher lost 6-0, 6-1. Sophomore Jarrod Bogard lost 6-0, 6-2 at number six singles.

The Monarchs will host their first match Feb. 23 at 11 am against Maryville College.
