March 26, 2007 WILSON, NC- The Monarchs traveled to Barton College to compete in the North/South Duals on Friday and Saturday finishing 1-3 with a win over St. Andrews College. The Monarchs improve to 5-7 overall after losses to Mercy, Limestone and Mt. Olive. The men faced tough Division II competition on Friday dropping matches to 40th ranked Mercy and 38th ranked Limestone. Doubles partners Chris and Andrew Fletcher combined to win at number one doubles over Mercy while Andrew Fletcher earned the win at number six singles against Limestone. On Saturday, the Monarchs lost 5-1 to Mt. Olive, ranked 12th in the Division II South region with Chris Fletcher earning the only victory for Methodist with a win at number one singles. The Monarchs then defeated St. Andrews 5-1 beginning with a 2-1 advantage in doubles. Senior David Hardy and freshman Andrew Freeman won at number two and senior Mike Layton and junior Matthew Siegel combined to win at number three. Chris Fletcher (No. 1), Hardy (No. 4), and Siegel (No. 6) won three singles matches while the other matches did not finish to give Methodist the 5-1 win. The Monarchs will face Shenandoah on Friday at Prince George's High School in Richmond, Virginia in a make up match before traveling to Averett on Saturday.
