Monarchs Earn First Win With 8-1 Victory At Piedmont
Methodist picked up all six singles wins

DEMOREST, GA- The Monarchs earned their first win of the season in their final match of spring break Monday morning. Methodist defeated Piedmont for an 8-1 win. The Monarchs move to 1-3 this season while Piedmont stands at 2-6 overall.

Methodist took an early 2-1 lead after the doubles matches. Senior Chris Fletcher and freshman Matthew Taylor won 8-2 at number one doubles, and junior Rob Currier and sophomore Dylan Knox won 8-0 at number three. Freshman Tariq Sheikh and sophomore Jarrod Bogard lost 8-4 at number two.

Fletcher fought off regionally ranked David Gillespie in the first set 7-5 before cruising to a 6-1 win for the match win. Sheikh came back from a set down to win 1-6, 6-2, 7-5 and Taylor won 6-2, 6-1 at number three. Knox won 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 at number four singles and Bogard won the shutout 6-0, 6-0 at number five. Sophomore Neil Perron won 6-1, 6-0 at number six singles.

The Monarchs will host Dickinson March 14 at 2:30 pm.
