split at Sewanee
Invitational
Eleven match win streak
snapped by Sewanee
SEWANEE, TN – The
Methodist Monarch men’s
tennis team finally had
their winning streak snapped as they
dropped a close 5-4 decision
at non-conference opponent
Sewanee on Saturday morning.
The Monarchs (13-3)
rebounded to beat
Mississippi College 5-1
later Saturday afternoon.
Methodist lost to Sewanee
despite being stronger at
the top. Methodist
recorded wins in #1 singles
(Keith Criscoe), #2 singles
(Chris Fletcher) and #1
doubles (Criscoe and
Fletcher). Sewanee,
however, countered with wins
in the lower matches to edge
out Methodist on their home
court.
Chris Fletcher went down
with a sprained ankle in the
Sewanee match and was
scratched in the afternoon
competition with Mississippi
College. The Monarchs
had no trouble rebounding
from their first Division
III loss of the year and
handled the Choctaws by a
score of 5-1.
Methodist, who is currently
ranked #7 in the Region,
hosts Ferrum College
Thursday at 1 pm.
