March 3, 2008 SEWANEE, TN- The Methodist men's tennis team lost a tough 7-2 match to the University of the South on Sunday. The Tigers are ranked 8th in the Atlantic South region, proving to be a good test for the Monarchs. Methodist moves to 0-3 overall while the University of the South stands at 5-1 this season. Senior Chris Fletcher and freshman Matthew Taylor opened with an 8-3 win at number one doubles, but sophomore Jarrod Bogard and freshman Tariq Sheik lost at number two 8-3. Junior Rob Currier and sophomore Dylan Knox lost 8-5 at number three. Fletcher won the Monarchs' second match of the day with a 6-4, 6-2 win at number one singles. Sheikh dropped the number two singles match 6-3, 6-4, while Taylor lost 6-1, 6-1 at number three. Knox lost 6-1, 6-2 at number four singles. Bogard won the first set, but lost 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 at number five and sophomore Neil Perron lost 6-0, 6-0 at number six. The Monarchs will play Piedmont Monday at 10 am. |
