Monarchs open 2006 season this weekend at Coastal Carolina Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The USA South Athletic Conference released its 2006 preseason poll for men’s tennis on Wednesday, and the Methodist Monarchs were selected as the preseason favorite in the seven-team race. Methodist received 36 points and six first-place votes, out-distancing second place Christopher Newport with 30 points and one first-place vote.

Rounding out the poll was Averett (23), Ferrum (19), Greensboro (17), Shenandoah (12) and North Carolina Wesleyan (10)

Methodist, which won both the USA South regular season and tournament championships last season, returns a strong contingent from last season’s squad that went 9-9 overall and 6-0 in the USA South. Second-year head coach Eddie Luck returns Division III regionally-ranked players Keith Criscoe and Chris Fletcher, plus defending conference champions David Hardy and Michael Layton.

Methodist kicks off the 2006 season this weekend at the Coastal Carolina Invitational. The Monarchs battle NCAA Division I Coastal Carolina and NCAA Division II Mount Olive on Saturday.
