Monarchs cruise past Kings 10-1 in NCAA's
Sorenson picks up seventeenth victory; Hudgins hits home run

SALISBURY, MD-  Top seeded Methodist College (39-6) had little trouble in their opening round of NCAA regional play, handling Kings College (37-8) 10-1 in five innings.  With the win the Monarchs advance to the semi-finals at 10 am on Saturday morning.

Methodist starter Jennifer Sorenson cruised through four innings allowing three base runners- on two hits a walk- while striking out four.  The Monarchs defense did not commit an error.

The Monarchs opened the scoring first in the first inning when Rebekah Kelly singled, was sacrificed by Amy Faucette, and scored on a Sara Poling base hit.

Candace Hudgins led off the second with a home run that would be the first of five runs the Monarchs would score in the inning to blow the game open.

The third inning was more of the same as Lisa Jackson again led off with a home run, the first of three Monarchs scores.

Kelly and Jackson had two hits each to lead the Monarchs, as seven hitters combined for nine hits.  Methodist also took advantage of four King's errors.

The Monarchs are just two wins away from a berth in the 2006 World Series.  They will play the winner of Ramapo (33-11) and Salisbury (33-6) who will play at Friday at 2 pm.
