Third-seeded Christopher Newport passed its first test in the 2004 USA
South Athletic Conference Volleyball Tournament on Friday, defeating
sixth-seeded Peace 30-16, 30-17, 30-13 at the Riddle Center. The
Captains service game was effective, recording 18 aces, while the
Christopher Newport defense held Peace to a negative hitting percentage.
Tricia Nelson paced a balanced Captain attack with 10 kills, followed by
Amber Bradshaw and Jessica O'Neal with eight kills each and Erin
Bradshaw added six kills. Brittany Collins recorded seven service aces
with an effective jump serve, and Erin Bradshaw recorded five service
aces.
Regina Schantz, Jordan Morris, Lindsey Kabbes and Katie Graham each
recorded three kills for Peace.
Christopher Newport awaits the winner of the Averett-Methodist showdown
in Saturday's 2:30 p.m. semifinal. |
