Top-seeded Greensboro used its dominating play at the net to defeat
fourth-seeded North Carolina Wesleyan 30-21, 30-19, 30-17 in Saturday's
first semifinal match of the 2004 USA South Athletic Conference
Tournament at Methodist. Offensively, Greensboro had a tremendous .485
hitting percentage as two players reached double-figures in kills.
The Pride received a dominating performance from 2004 USA South Player
of the Year Katie Smith, who recorded a whopping 23 kills and three
blocks for a .690 hitting percentage. In addition, Lauren Smith recorded
a sizzling .800 hitting percentage with 12 kills and three blocks.
For North Carolina Wesleyan, Erin Bryant recorded nine kills, while
Kendra Brewer added seven kills.
Greensboro meets the winner of the 2:30 p.m. semifinal match between
Christopher Newport and Averett. The championship match is set for 5
p.m. |
