Monarchs Honored as USA South Athletes of the Week
Methodist student-athletes receive weekly conference honors

FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The USA South has announced their athletes of the week. The conference gives an award for Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week for each sport active during the week.

Rebekah Kelly has been named the USA South Softball Player of the Week. The senior centerfielder from Fayetteville, North Carolina hit .643 (9-for-14) with six RBI, five runs scored, four triples and one double as the Monarchs went 4-0 last week. In a doubleheader sweep of USA South rival Greensboro, Kelly was a combined 6-for-8 with five RBI, four triples, three runs scored and one double. In the second game alone, Kelly was a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, three runs scored, one double and a Methodist single-game record-tying three triples. In a doubleheader sweep of USA South foe Averett, Kelly was a combined 3-for-6 with two runs scored and one run batted in.

Lesley Hewitt has been named the USA South Softball Pitcher of the Week. The Garner, North Carolina junior appeared in two games for the Monarchs last week, earning a 2-0 record. Hewitt tossed a total of 11 innings, giving up three runs on 11 hits with three walks and seven strikeouts. In a 4-2 win over USA South rival Greensboro, Hewitt earned the win by going six innings, giving up two runs on six hits with three walks and two strikeouts. In a 9-1, five-inning, victory over Averett, Hewitt went the distance, giving up just one run on five hits with five strikeouts.

Lindsey Cosgray has been selected as the USA South Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week. The Middletown, Maryland sophomore goalkeeper totaled nine saves in a 15-4 victory over USA South rival Ferrum. Cosgray also collected three ground balls in the Monarchs only action last week.

Chris Fletcher has been named the USA South Men's Tennis Player of the Week. The New Castle, New Hampshire senior was 3-0 at both number-one singles and doubles last week for the Monarchs. Fletcher earned two USA South singles victories over top players from Greensboro and Averett, in addition to a non-conference win over Guilford. In doubles action, Fletcher teamed with Matthew Taylor to earn three wins with no defeats.
