Methodist’s Acosta selected Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III All-American

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. –
The NFCA (National Fastpitch Coaches Association) released its Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III All-American team on Thursday, and the Methodist Monarchs were honored with one of the 46 representives to the 2005 squad, which is comprised of three teams.

Outfielder Adrienne Acosta was selected third-team All-American as an at-large representative. She becomes the second player in the history of Methodist softball to earn All-American honors. Kristen Wallace was a first-team All-American in 2002, and a third-team All-American in 2003.

A senior from Fayetteville, N.C., Acosta was a first team All-USA South Athletic Conference selection in leading the Monarchs to the USA South regular season championship with a 32-12 overall record. Also a first team Division III All-Atlantic South Region selection, she was the only player from the USA South to receive All-American honors.

Acosta hit .318 with four home runs and 23 RBIs, plus 33 runs scored and 28 stolen bases. She led the USA South Athletic Conference in triples with four and ranked second in both runs scored and stolen bases. Acosta had nine multi-hit games, including a 3-for-5 performance against Maryville at the East Coast Classic.
