Monarch Softball athletes
rack up postseason awards
Jackson and Acosta named
All-Tournament; Jackson, Kelly,
Sorenson, and Faucette selected
All-Region
FAYETTEVILLE, NC- After a
successful 39-8 season came to
an end last week at the NCAA
Regionals, the Monarch softball
team continued their winning
ways with postseason
recognition.
For the Monarchs, who ended
their season ranked #9 in the
nation, Lisa Jackson and
Adrienne Acosta were named to
the all-tournament team for
their efforts in the Salisbury
regional last week.
Jackson led the Monarchs at the
plate in the regional tournament
going 4-8 with two runs, and
RBI, and two doubles.
Acosta, was 2-5 with two runs,
an RBI, and a double.
Four Monarchs were also named to
the National Fastpitch Coaches
Association All-Atlantic Region
Team. Jackson, along with
outfielder Rebekah Kelly, were
named to the second team.
Seniors Jennifer Sorenson and
Amy Faucette were named to the
third team.
Kelly, a sophomore from
Fayetteville, NC led the
Monarchs at the plate this
season hitting .400 for the
season. She also led the
team with 50 hits and was second
in runs scored (35), and stolen
bases (15).
Jackson, a sophomore catcher
from Cameron, NC hit .375 for
the Monarchs this season.
She led the team with five home
runs.
Sorenson, a pitcher from
Spotsylvania, VA led the
Monarchs on the mound going 17-4
with 4 saves. Sorenson
finished her career as Methodist
all-time leader in appearances
(116), saves (20), and is second
all-time in winning percentage
(.724) and strikeouts (336).
Faucette, a utility infielder
from Fuquay-Varnia, NC led the
Monarchs in games started this
season with 45. Playing
second base and catcher,
Faucette hit .279 and hit two
home runs on the year.
