March 3, 2007 VIRGINIA BEACH, VA- After two wins on Friday, the Monarchs came back Saturday morning to lose a tough 8-0 game to Roanoke College. Methodist rebounded in game two of the day taking a 6-2 win over Mary Washington. The Monarchs move to 6-2 overall this season. Roanoke took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning and extended their lead to 5-0 in the fifth inning. The Monarchs struggled to get their offense going with the only hit of the day going to junior Rebekah Kelly with a single in the top of the third. Roanoke closed out the game with back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take the 8-0 win. In game two, the Mary Washington Eagles jumped out early to take a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, but Methodist settled in and rattled off six unanswered runs over innings two through six to take the 6-2 win. Junior Candace Hudgins went 2-for-3 from the plate and Kelly finished 2-for-4 with a home run and a double. Freshman pitcher Emily Beck entered in the second inning to earn the win. The Monarchs will play at Huntingdon on Tuesday at 3 pm before competing in the NFCA Classic March 9-11. |
