May 11, 2007 FAYETTEVILLE, NC - Methodist and Emory both came into Friday's game with a close win on Thursday. The Monarchs started strong with a 1-0 lead, but Emory scored two unearned runs in the fourth to take the win. The Monarchs move to 33-9 on the season while Emory is 30-6. Emory's Cassandra Walsh recorded the first hit of the game with a bunt single, but was stranded on second in the first inning. LaTiana Headen led off the third inning with a walk for Methodist and moved to second on Jennifer Brophy's sacrifice bunt. With two outs, Megan Hutson drove one deep to left center scored Headen for the 1-0 lead. Emory left another runner in the third, but made their comeback in the fourth. The first two batters reached on fielding errors to start the inning. The runners advanced to second on a passed ball and Rachel Blume's bunt single scored the tying run. Caitlin Fitzgerald's sacrifice fly would score Sarah Morse for what would be the game-winning run. The Monarchs left their final runner stranded in the fifth, and Emory pitcher Ashley Tobar secured the win in relief. The Monarchs will face Marietta College on Saturday at 10 am. Both teams will meet with a 1-1 tournament record with the winner to face the winner of Salisbury and Christopher Newport at 4 pm.
