#11 Methodist Adds Two Wins Over Ferrum

Senior Rebekah Kelly broke the Methodist record for triples in a season

FAYETTEVILLE, NC - The Monarchs cruised to a 6-3 victory in game one over Ferrum before coming from behind in game to win win 4-3. The Monarchs move to 26-4 overall and 8-0 in the USA South while Ferrum is 9-15 overall and 2-4 in th conference.

Methodist senior Rebekah Kelly led off the bottom of the first inning of game one with a triple to left field. Her ninth of the season, Kelly broke the Methodist record for a triples in a season previously set by Anne Uleman and Jennifer Patrick. Two walks and a wild pitch allowed Kelly to score the first run of the game. Junior Kayla Talbert was hit by a pitch and junior Sara Poling put down the bunt single for sophomore Megan Hutson to score. Freshman Hannah Stutts singled to left center allowing sophomore Crystal Metzger and Talbert both to score for the 4-0 lead. The Panthers cut the lead to three in the second inning but the Monarchs countered with a run in the second on a RBI single from Metzger. The Monarchs tallied another run in the third when junior Caline Daun led off with a walk. With two outs, Kelly singled through the left side and Daun advanced to second. Hutson singled to center field and Daun came around to score the Monarchs' sixth run of the game. Ferrum added a run in the sixth on two hits and another run in the seventh on a home rum from Jalisa Poe, but Methodist held on for the 6-3 win. Junior Lesley Hewitt went the complete game in the circle scattering seven hits.

Ferrum struck early in game two scoring a run in the first inning after a lead off double and a single to right center for the RBI. Methodist scored one in the bottom of the inning after Kelly led off with a single and moved to third after Hutson's sacrifice bunt turned into an error. Freshman Jody Eyler hit the sacrifice fly for Kelly to score. The Panthers scored two runs in the second inning capitalizing on an error, but the Monarchs came back with three in the third. Kelly led off with another triple to give her 10 on the season. Hutson was hit by a pitch and Metzger hit the sacrifice fly for Kelly to score. Eyler walked and Daun came on to run. Talbert singled through the left side to load the bases and Poling hit a double down the left field line to score Hutson and Daun for the 4-3 lead. Neither team could score another run through the remainder of the game with the Monarchs taking the win. Stutts pitched the complete game win for Methodist allowing just one earned run.

Kelly finished 5-for-6 on the day while Poling and Metzger both had three RBI.

The Monarchs will host Peace on Tuesday at 2:30 pm.
