#24 Monarchs Split With Greensboro
Sophomore Lesley Hewitt pitches a complete game to earn the win

FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  The Monarchs took game one over Greensboro 5-3, but the Pride came back with a five run fourth inning to defeat Methodist 5-3 in game two. The Monarchs move to 23-7 overall and 7-3 in the USA South while Greensboro moves to 28-8 overall and 7-5 in the conference.

The Monarchs took an early 4-0 lead in game one to secure the victory.  In the first inning senior Kristie Kennedy hit a RBI single to left field to score junior Rebekah Kelly.  Kennedy would score on an error by the Greensboro second baseman before sophomore Kayla Talbert hit a RBI single to center to score freshman Megan Hutson for three runs in the inning.  Methodist scored the fourth run of the game on another RBI single by Kennedy to score Kelly.  The Pride came back to score three runs in the third, but remained scoreless through the rest of the game while the Monarchs scored an insurance run in the fourth to take the 5-3 win behind freshman Cortney Kerns triple to right field.  Sophomore Lesley Hewitt pitched the complete game to earn her ninth win of the season.

In game two, the Monarchs started out strong scoring three runs in the first inning with help from two defensive errors for Greensboro.  Kelly started things off with a single to the shortstop and Kerns laid down the sacrifice to move Kelly to second.  Kelly's stayed alert on the play and continued to third while Greensboro was making the play at first to get Kerns.  Kelly scored on a single by sophomore Sara Poling.  Hutson scored pinch runner Colleen Delaney and Hutson would score the third run on an error by the Pride.  The Pride came back in the top of the fourth inning with five runs on five hits and one error for the Monarchs.  Freshman Emily Beck went five innings in the circle for the Monarchs to draw the loss while Jordan Davenport earned the win for Greensboro.

The Monarchs will play Averett in a doubleheader on Sunday in rescheduled games from Thursday.
