![]() Monarchs sweep weekly USA South rookie honors for softball Headen selected USA South Rookie of the Week; Hewitt tabbed USA South Rookie Pitcher of the Week FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The USA South Athletic Conference released its first weekly honors for softball on Monday, and the Methodist Monarchs swept the first week of the rookie awards. The Monarchs’ LaTiana Headen was selected USA South Rookie of the Week, while teammate Lesley Hewitt was selected USA South Rookie Pitcher of the Week. A freshman from Mebane, N.C., Headen is on a tear offensively in the Monarchs’ first four games of the season. She is currently hitting .667 (8-for-12) with a double, triple, four RBIs and five runs scored. In Methodist’s Sunday sweep over Christopher Newport, Headen went a combined 6-for-8, including a perfect 4-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored and two RBIs. She also went 2-for-2 in the second game on Wednesday at Guilford. ![]() A freshman from Garner, N.C., Hewitt was victorious in her first collegiate start on Wednesday at Guilford. She worked three innings, surrendering four hits with a strikeout in a 10-2 Methodist victory. Hewitt also worked four-and-two-thirds innings on Sunday in game two against Christopher Newport with no decision. 27th-ranked Methodist plays Friday and Saturday in the Atlantic vs. East Challenge at Virginia Wesleyan. |
