Athletic Department Announces Scholar Athletes of the Year

Stephen Fox and Sara Poling honored with highest academic honors
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.- 
Each year, the Methodist Department of Athletics honors the male and female student-athletes with the highest cumulative grade point average.  Men's soccer player, Stephen Fox will receive the Male Scholar Athlete of the Year award.  Softball player Sara Poling has been named the Female Scholar Athletes of the Year for the second consecutive year. release

Rebekah Kelly received second consecutive All-American nod
FAYETTEVILLE, NC - The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) released the 2008 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III All-America teams, announced Thursday night at the national championship banquet in Salem, Va. There were 37 different schools that placed athletes on one of the three squads. release

Scott Russell and Rebekah Kelly honored for achievements in the classroom and on the field
FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) has announced their annual ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Baseball and Softball teams. Senior Scott Russell was named to the First Team while senior Rebekah Kelly earned Second Team honors. release

BURLINGTON, N.C.-  The USA South Athletic Conference held their annual Spring Sports Festival in Burlington, N.C. April 17-20 with Methodist sending six teams to compete. Men's golf and women's tennis took top honors with Tournament Championships on Sunday. release

BURLINGTON, N.C. - The Pride and Monarchs battled each other in quarterfinal play into the championship of the USA South Tournament. The #19 nationally ranked Monarchs, suffered a loss at the hands of #24 CNU, to find them against the Pride of Greensboro College who come into the tournament ranked #4 in the USA South. release

BURLINGTON, N.C. - The Monarchs of Methodist University ended the tournament run of the Peace College Pacers with an 8-1 victory at Springwood Park in Burlington, NC. Methodist (34-9) advances to challenge Greensboro College in tonight’s elimination game. The Pacers complete their strongest-ever season 27-17. release

FAYETTEVILLE, NC - The USA South Athletic Conference has announced its All-Conference awards for softball. A total of 47 student-athletes have been named to the teams for softball. Methodist University's Rebekah Kelly has been named the Player of the Year for the second consecutive year while her teammate, Hannah Stutts, has earned Rookie Pitcher of the Year honors. release

NEWPORT NEWS, VA- Christopher Newport jumped out to an early lead and went on to win both games of a doubleheader over the Monarchs on Sunday. Methodist made a late rally in the bottom of the seventh in game one but came up short 6-5 and then lost 3-1 in game two. The Monarchs move to 32-8 overall and 14-4 in the USA South while Christopher Newport is 28-8-1 overall and 13-3-1 in the conference. release

STAUNTON, VA - The Monarchs took on Mary Baldwin Saturday to pick up two wins in 10 innings of work. Methodist cruised to 17-0 and 13-4 wins over the Squirrels. The Monarchs move to 30-4 overall and 12-0 in the USA South while Mary Baldwin drops to 3-26 overall and 0-12 in the conference. release

The Monarchs won 1-0 in game won and came from behind to win 8-7 in game two over nine innings. The Monarchs move to 24-4 overall while Virginia Wesleyan is 15-5 this season. release

USA South Announces Preseason Polls

FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  The USA South Conference office released the preseason polls today for the remaining spring sports.  Baseball was released earlier this month.  The polls are based on votes from each conference member's head coach without voting for themselves. release
