conference championship by
defeating Ferrum College 8-2,
8-4 on Sunday. With the
wins the Monarchs end their
regular season at an impressive

what they do best- win.
The winningest senior class in
school history led Methodist
(32-6) over an overmatched Salem
College (0-29). Methodist
starters pounded Salem 30-1 in
the first game before cruising
to a 8-0 victory in the
nightcap.

The chances of an undefeated
season in the USA South Athletic
Conference went by the wayside
for the Methodist Monarch
softball team on Wednesday
against visiting North Carolina
Wesleyan. The Monarchs, behind a
sterling performance by Jennifer
Sorensen, won game one 2-0.
However, North Carolina Wesleyan
rallied to take the nightcap 4-3
at the Monarch Field. The split
makes Methodist, ranked 27th in
Division III, 24-6 overall and
7-1 in the USA South.

FLORENCE, S.C. –
The Methodist Monarch softball
team finished off the Early Bird
Invitational with fine fashion
on Saturday. Methodist opened
with 2-0 victory over Peace on a
no-hitter by Jennifer Sorensen,
and then out-lasted LaGrange 3-1
in nine innings in the nightcap.
The victories gave Methodist
four in the five games at the
Early Bird Invitational this
weekend. Methodist, ranked 27th
in Division III, improves to
23-5 overall.

but rallied to defeat Meredith
3-1 and Averett 4-2. With the
two victories, 27th-ranked
Methodist improves to 21-5

the fifth straight for
27th-ranked Methodist, which

offensively, going 3-for-4 with

fireworks on Wednesday, the
Methodist Monarch softball team

USA South Athletic Conference
play with a 5-1, 9-2
twin-killing at rival Averett.
The victory was the fourth
straight for the 27th-ranked
Monarchs, which remain
undefeated in the USA South at
6-0. Methodist had a combined 26
hits in the doubleheader,
including 17 in game two against
Cougar pitching.

Central in the nightcap. The

The 27th-ranked Methodist
Monarch softball team finished
up the Atlantic vs. East
Challenge with two convincing
victories on Saturday at
Virginia Wesleyan. Methodist
started with a 13-1 rout over
Mary Washington, followed by a
10-1 rout over Albright. The
Monarchs remain undefeated at
8-0 on the season heading into
next week’s prestigious Sun West
Tournament in Santa Anna, Calif.
In addition, the sweep gave
veteran head coach Ron Simpson
his 225th victory at Methodist
in this his eighth season. In
their four games in the Atlantic
vs. East Challenge, Methodist
scored a whopping 33 runs and
gave up only two.

The Monarchs won their first two
games on Friday with a 2-0
victory over Lycoming and an 8-0
shutout over Polytechnic. The
victory keeps Methodist
undefeated at 6-0 overall. The
Atlantic vs. East Challenge is a
24-team field, including five
nationally-ranked teams.

The USA South Athletic
Conference released its 2006
preseason poll for softball on
Wednesday, and the Methodist
Monarchs were selected as the
preseason favorite in the
eight-team race. Methodist
received 48 points and six
first-place votes,
out-distancing second place
Christopher Newport with 38
points and one first-place vote.
Methodist opens its 2006 season
