Methodist Sweeps Meredith 12-4 and 11-2
Senior Kristie Kennedy goes 4-for-5 from the plate with four runs and five RBI

RALEIGH, NC-  After splitting with Peace on Saturday, the Monarchs bounced back on Sunday to sweep Meredith in two games outscoring the Angels 23-6.  The Monarchs move to 20-6 overall while Meredith falls to 4-22 this season.

The Monarchs were shut out to end the day on Saturday against Peace, but came out firing against Meredith to score five runs in the first inning of game one.  In the second inning, junior Rebekah Kelly singled to lead off and stole her way around the bases before scoring on a wild pitch to take the 6-0 lead.  Held scoreless during the third inning, Methodist came back to score four innings in the fourth and two in the fifth inning for 12 runs.  Senior Jessica Hutzul started in the circle for the Monarchs going four innings giving up four hits and two runs to earn the win.  Freshman Kim Bartlett finished the game in the fifth inning giving up two runs on a hit to preserve the 12-4 win.

Methodist picked up where they left off in game two scoring two runs in the top of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead.  The Monarchs had a huge third inning with twelve batters, four hits, and eight runs to take the 10-0 lead.  Junior Candace Hudgins spearheaded the rally with a two-run homerun.  Meredith capitalized on three Methodist defensive errors to score two runs in the bottom of the inning but the Monarchs score another run in the fourth inning to take the 11-2 win.  Freshman Nicole Springer pitched the first three innings to earn the win while freshman Virginia Harrington and Bartlett each pitched an inning to finish the game.

The Monarchs will travel to Shenandoah for a doubleheader on Tuesday at 2 pm.
