Monarchs fall to Ramapo in NCAA Tournament
Lisa Jackson leads with two hits; Methodist to play at 2 pm

SALISBURY, MD-  The Methodist College softball team fell to Ramapo College 3-0 in the championship of the winners bracket in the 2006 NCAA Division III Regional Tournament.  With the loss the Monarchs fall to 39-7 overall, while the Roadrunners raise their overall record to 35-11.

Ramapo got the only run they would need in the 5th inning as Beth Choma (East Brunswick, NJ) reached on a fielder's choice and advanced to second on a Methodist passed ball. Michele Rossi then stepped to the plate and smacked a two out single to center field to score Choma. The Roadrunners tacked on two more runs in the 6th. Andrea Pastiglione ripped a home run over the left center field wall to score the first run and pinch runner Maura Sullivan scored on a fielder's choice by Lauren Cascino to put Ramapo in the lead for good at 3-0.

Ramapo's Katie Norton (Livingston, NJ) pitched a complete game six-hitter. She struck out seven and only walked two while raising her season record to 12-4.

For Methodist, Lisa Jackson (Cameron, NC) was 2-3 on the day and Amy Faucette (Fuquay-Varnia, NC)  was 1-2. Monarch starter Jennifer Sorensen (Spotsylvania ,VA) pitched 5.2 innings taking the loss, giving up only four hits while striking out five. Jessica Hutzul (Brampton, Ontario) pitched the final 1.1 innings giving up only one hit.

The Monarchs return to action this afternoon against the winner of game ten for a chance to play in the tournament's championship

The Monarchs are still just three wins away from a berth in the 2006 World Series.
