Monarchs Sweep Peace; Remain in First Place Kelly, Jackson, and Poling get four hits a piece FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – After losing their first conference game last weekend the Monarchs (26-6, 9-1) looked to get back on track at Peace (15-13, 1-7) on Saturday. They did just that with a double-header sweep. Monarch hitters jumped on Peace starter Lauren Pleasant early and often in game one. A second inning Rebekah Kelly triple scored three to open the floodgates. The Monarchs scored three more in the third and twice again in the fifth before a Lisa Jackson home run in the sixth gave the Monarchs their final tally of eleven. Jackson and Kelly both finished 4-4 at the plate combining for 7 RBI. Sarah Polling was 3-4. Jennifer Sorenson picked up the win for Methodist. The second game was a much closer contest as Peace gave Methodist all they could handle. Methodist opened the scoring in the third taking advantage of two Peace errors and knocking in three runs on four singles. Peace responded in the fourth with a Sarah Heenen home run off Methodist starter Lindsey Hewitt. Methodist would add an insurance run in the sixth before closing out the game 4-2. Kayla Talbert had two hits for Methodist. Lauren Pleasant hit safely twice for Peace. The Monarchs next double-header will be at home against Meredith on Tuesday at 2 pm. |
