Methodist Starts With Two Wins at Rebel Games

Senior Rebekah Kelly hit 3-for-3 with three RBI in win over Augustana

KISSIMMEE, FL - After a quick night's sleep in Fayetteville Saturday night, the Methodist softball team continued south on Sunday headed towards the Rebel Games in Kissimmee, Florida. The team started off on the right foot with a 12-4 win over Augustana and a 3-2 victory against Wittenberg. Methodist improves to 6-2 this season.

Methodist cruised to a 12-4 win in their first game, finishing in five innings. Senior Rebekah Kelly went 3-for-3 from the plate with three RBI while freshman Ashley Guman went 3-for-4 with four RBI. The team as a whole batted .400 with 10 hits in the win. Junior Lesley Hewitt pitched the complete game for the win giving up six hits.

Methodist took an early lead against Wittenberg on a RBI from freshman Tabatha Stephenson. Freshman Jody Eyler gave the Monarchs a 3-0 lead in the third inning with a two RBI double. Wittenberg moved within a run on a two-run home run in the top of the seventh, but Methodist recorded the final three outs for the 3-2 win. Sophomore Emily Beck pitched six innings for the win with just one earned run allowed while Hewitt earned the save.

The Monarchs will take on Aurora and Muskinghum on Tuesday morning.
