![]() 27th-ranked Monarchs swept on final day of Sun West Tournament Methodist falls to 14-4 overall with defeats against Kenyon, Central ORANGE, Calif. – The final day of the Sun West Tournament wasn’t what the Methodist Monarch softball team envisioned as it ended the tournament with two straight defeats. The Monarchs dropped a 6-3 decision against Kenyon in the first game, followed by an 8-0 shutout defeat against Central in the nightcap. The sweep drops 27th-ranked Methodist to 14-4 overall. Kenyon jumped out to a 6-0 lead with a run in the first inning and five in the third on two RBI doubles. Methodist answered with two runs in the fourth and one in the sixth. Rebekah Kelly plated a two-run single in the third, scoring Jennifer Sorensen and Caryn Moreland. In the sixth, Moreland scored on a Kenyon error. Methodist starter Jennifer Brophy was the losing pitcher. Central hurler Kelsey Rethmeier held the Monarchs to four hits in the second game, firing the complete game shutout with five strikeouts. Central, meanwhile, took a 3-0 lead in the first, and increased the lead to 4-0 in the second. The Dutch then added a run in the fourth, two in the fifth and the final run in the sixth. Methodist is back home on Monday for a 2 p.m. USA South Athletic Conference doubleheader against Shenandoah at Monarch Field. |
