March 2, 2008 VIRGINIA BEACH, VA- After two losses to nationally ranked opponents on Friday, the Monarchs bounced back with wins over Frostburg State and York on Saturday. Methodist moves to 4-2 this season. Methodist got things going in the top of the third inning against Frostburg State. Senior Rebekah Kelly singled to right field before sophomore Crystal Metzger hit a home run to left field for the 2-0 lead. Frostburg countered with a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth, but the Monarchs scored again in the top of the fifth. Freshman Ashley Guman entered as a pinch runner after a single from freshman Kayla McLean. Guman moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Tabatha Stephenson. Kelly hit another single that advanced Guman to third before she scored on a Bobcats' error. Sophomore Megan Hutson led off the sixth by reaching on an error and junior Sara Poling hit a home run to take the 5-1 lead. Frostburg left one runner on in the sixth, but Methodist finished with the 5-1 win. Freshman Hannah Stutts earned the win in the circle with 13 strikeouts. In the final game of the tournament, Methodist took on York College of Pennsylvania. The game was scoreless through the first two and a half innings before the Monarchs took over in the bottom of the third. Guman, Metzger and Hutson loaded the bases after three consecutive walks. Poling singled to left field to score Guman, but left the bases loaded for junior Kayla Talbert. Talbert hit her second grand slam this season for Methodist to take the 5-0 lead. The Monarchs scored another run in the fourth sparked by a single to left center from Guman. She stole second and scored on a RBI single from Metzger. York managed two runs in the sixth on four hits and an error, but Metzger hit another RBI single to score Methodist's seventh run after a double from senior Billye Rivas. York left two runners stranded in the seventh for the Monarchs to take the 7-2 win. Junior Lesley Hewitt pitched the complete game for Methodist allowing just one earned run with eight strikeouts. The Monarchs will be in Florida this week beginning with games against Augustana (IL) and #2 Wittenberg on Monday.
