Monarchs Qualify for NCAA Championships at Pembroke
Sophomore Keon Hannibal finished fifth in the 400m in 51.74 seconds

PEMBROKE, NC -  The Methodist track and field team competed in the Carolinas Championships at the University of North Carolina - Pembroke. Four Monarchs qualified for the NCAA Championships after their performances on Saturday.

Junior Tazz Petty, freshman Greg Bailey, and senior Mike Hill all qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 100 meter dash preliminaries. Petty ran a personal best 10.61 in the preliminaries before winning the race in 10.79 seconds. Bailey and Hill both finished the preliminaries in 10.77 seconds while Bailey went on to place third at 10.97 and Hill finished sixth. Senior Adonis Stanley ran a personal best 11.03 in the 100 meter preliminaries.

Bailey also qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 200 meters after finishing second in 21.72 seconds, another personal record. Petty finished in 21.95 and Stanley finished in 22.63 seconds. Stanley, Hill, Bailey, and Petty combined in the 4x100 meter relay to finish first in 41.79, another NCAA qualifying time.

Hill placed third in the long jump for the Monarchs with leap of 6.63 meters. Sophomores Brandon Kidd and Keon Hannibal competed in the 400 meter dash. Kidd placed third in 51.41 while Hannibal placed fifth in 51.74 seconds, a personal best.

Senior Tia Imel ran two personal bests in the 100 meters and 200 meters. She placed fourth in the 100 meters in 13.25 seconds and sixth in the 200 meters in 27.81 seconds.

Next weekend the Monarchs will compete at the International Friendship and Freedom Games in Greensboro, NC.
