Monarchs finish fourth, Lady Monarchs eighth at Chanticlear Classic CONWAY, S.C. – The Methodist Monarch men’s track and field team garnered a fourth place finish on Saturday at the Chanticlear Classic at Coastal Carolina, while the Lady Monarchs finished eighth. The Monarchs accumulated 45 points, and the Lady Monarchs scored two points in the nine-team field. Headlining the Monarchs was Darmarcus Wilson, who won the men’s discus with a throw of 157-03 feet. In addition, DeVonne Armstrong placed second in the men’s shot put with throw of 48-03.25 feet, and Nevin Rayford placed second in the men’s triple jump with a distance of 43-0 feet. Rayford also placed fifth in the men’s long jump with a distance of 21-0 feet, while Anthony Donaldson placed third in the men’s 400-meter hurdles in 1:00.65, and William Helms placed fifth in a time of 1:14.32. In the men’s 100-meter dash, Taz Petty placed fifth in a time of 11.31 seconds. In addition, Anthony Trofe finished fourth in the men’s discus with a toss of 12607 feet, and David Leonard finished sixth with a throw of 108-03 feet. Kenny Brown placed fifth in the men’s shot put with a throw of 44-06.25 feet, and Leonard placed seventh with a toss of 42-02 feet. Trofe also placed seventh in the men’s hammer throw, and Armstrong place eighth in the men’s discus. Methodist finished third in two relay events. The team of Petty, Rayford, Adonis Stanley and Jeremy McSwain placed third in the men’s 4x100-meter relay with a time of 42.81 seconds, while Donaldson, Stanley, Dwayne Johnson and Howard Fuller finished third in the men’s 4x400-meter relay in 3:46.32. For the Lady Monarchs, Krystal Patton placed eighth in the women’s 800-meter run in 2:46.80, and Meg Coe placed eighth in the women’s shot put with a throw of 38-07 feet. Methodist’s next meet is the Royal Invitational at Eastern Mennonite on April 16. |
