Monarchs Compete at Clemson Invitational
Junior Tazz Petty places eighth in the 60 meter dash

CLEMSON, SC -  First year head coach Duane Ross returned to his alma mater this weekend to lead the Methodist Monarchs at the Clemson Invitational. The Monarchs had a strong showing earning points in the 60 meter dash and the 4x400 meter relay.

Senior Tia Imel competed in the 60 meter dash and the 200 meters. She ran the 60 meters in 8.69 seconds on Friday and finished the 200 meters in 29.31 on Saturday beating her personal best by three tenths of a second.

On the men's side, junior Tazz Petty just missed the national qualifying time of 6.95 with a personal best, 6.96 seconds in the 60 meter dash preliminaries, good enough to qualify for the finals. Petty finished eighth in the finals while winning his heat. The Monarchs had four other competitors in the 60 meters all beating or tying their personal best times. Senior Michael Hill ran a 7.11, while Greg Bailey finished in 7.16 seconds, senior Adonis Stanley ran it in 7.32 seconds and Rob Robinson finished in 7.40 seconds.

In the 200 meter race, Petty led the Monarchs for a 10th place finish in 22.72 seconds for another personal record. Bailey ran a personal best time of 23.23 while Hill was just behind him in 23.24 seconds. Stanley ran the race for a personal best of 24.23 seconds and Robinson finished in 24.30 seconds. Sophomore Brandon Kidd ran his personal best in the 400 meter race for 52.20 seconds. Freshman Keith Durden ran in his first collegiate race, running the 400 meters in 53.95 seconds. Sophomore Keon Hannibal beat his personal record to finish the 400 meters in 54.74.

Kidd, Durden, Hannibal and Stanley combined for the 4x400 meter relay and placed seventh in 3:39.35 earning the Monarchs another two points.

Next weekend, the Monarchs will head to Liberty University for the On Track Open.
