Patrick Thornell wins the javelin, places second in the high
jump
ATLANTA, GA- The Methodist Track and Field team traveled to
Atlanta on Saturday to compete in the Emory Invitational.
The event was the second event of the 2006 outdoor season.
Despite the cold and windy weather, the Monarchs had several
impressive performances.
Pat Thornell took home his first collegiate individual title by
winning the javelin throw with a toss of 179 feet.
This was also Thornell's collegiate debut in the Javelin.
His performance was only nine feet away from qualifying for
nationals. Besides conquering the javelin, Thornell also placed second in the high jump with a
leap of 6'2 3/4.
Kawesi Darby had a strong showing in the men's 100 meter dash running a 11.41; good enough for a seventh place finish.
Tia Imel ran a personal best time of 65.57 in the women's 400
meter dash and placed 17th in the event.
Methodist’s next meet is set for April 1st at the Elon
