Men's Track and Field Places Third at Conference Championships

NEWPORT NEWS, VA-  The Methodist track and field teams traveled back to Christopher Newport this weekend to compete in the Mason Dixon Conference Championships on Sunday.

On the women's team, senior LaToya Robertson threw 9.80m to place fifth in the shot put and earn the women two points.  Junior Tia Imel competed in the 200m (29.61) and 400m (1:06.09) while junior Krystal Patton ran the 5000m in 21:05.55. 

The men's team combined to score 76 points and place third amongst the six teams competing.  Sophomore Tazz Petty won the 55m dash in a time of 6.42 seconds and placed fourth in the 200m dash (23.15).  Junior Mike Hill placed sixth in the 55m (6.62) and third in the 200m with a time of 22.89.  Hill also placed third in the long jump with a leap of 6.43m.  Freshman Brandon Kidd came in sixth in the 400m in 52.56 seconds. 

Sophomore Pat Thornell placed fourth in the high jump (1.86m) and third in the triple jump (12.95m), while junior Todd Sackewitz won the pole vault championship after clearing 4.07m.  Junior Nevin Rayford placed second in both the long jump (6.43m) and the triple jump (13.20m).  Rayford's sixteen points tied him for fourth as an individual scorer.  Freshman Carlton Wellington threw 13.41m to place third in the shot put. 

Kidd, Rayford, Hill and freshman Adam Clouse combined to place fourth in the 4x400 meter relay.  Sophomore Adam Farabaugh, freshman Keon Hannibal, Thornell and freshman Chase Pattillo placed fifth in the distance medley.

The team will compete at the last chance meet on March 3rd at Virginia Tech.
