Monarchs Compete at Mason Dixon Championships
Senior Tia Imel earned All-Conference honors in the 100 and 200 meters

NEWPORT NEWS, VA-  The Monarchs traveled to Christopher Newport University for the Mason Dixon Conference Championships on Friday and Saturday. The men placed fourth while senior Tia Imel helped herself with six points for a seventh place team finish.

Imel ran the 100 meters in 13.29 seconds for a fourth place finish and rounded things out with a fifth place finish in the 200 meters with a time of 28.16 seconds.

Junior Tazz Petty led the field in the 100 meter preliminaries with a time of 10.76 seconds before finishing second in the finals in 10.78 seconds. Freshman Greg Bailey placed third in the finals with a time of 10.90 seconds after a 10.83 time in the preliminaries. Senior Michael Hill placed fifth in the finals at 11.07 after running 10.86 in the preliminaries. Freshman Rob Robinson placed 10th at 11.29 and senior Adonis Stanley ran the 100 in 11.53 seconds to place 15th.

Bailey placed third in the 200 meters at 22.04 while Petty was right behind him in fourth at 22.30 seconds. Hill placed eighth in 22.73 seconds. In the 400 meter dash, sophomore Brandon Kidd placed fourth in 50.36 seconds and sophomore Keon Hannibal ran the face in 51.38 seconds for a seventh place finish. Freshman Keith Durden finished ninth at 51.72 seconds and Robinson was 14th in 55.94 seconds.

The 4x100 meter relay team made up of Stanley, Hill, Bailey and Petty placed second in 42.02 seconds and Kidd, Durden, Bailey and Petty ran the 4x400 meter relay in 3:30.07 to place third. Junior Pat Thornell added points in the field events placing third in the high jump at 1.91 meters and second in the javelin throw at 53.44 meters. Thornell placed eighth in the long jump at 6.13 meters and Hill placed sixth with a distance of 6.17 meters.

Congratulations to Imel on her graduation. She was unable to attend the Methodist University ceremony due to the meet.

The team will compete in the Orange and Purple Classic on Saturday at Clemson University.
