Monarchs enjoy successful outing at the Carolina's Track and Field Championships
Pat Thornell wins the Javelin; Todd Sackewitz wins the Pole Vault

PEMBROKE, NC - The Methodist Track and Field team took to the track at the Carolina's Track and Field Championships hosted by UNC- Pembroke on Saturday.  The hot day provided the Monarchs with two victories and numerous personal and season bests.

Pat Thornell won the Javelin for the third time this season, this time with a throw of 52.42 meters.

Todd Sackewitz cleared fourteen feet (4.27 m) to win the Pole Vault competition.

Kawesi Darby ran the 100 meter dash in eleven seconds flat to finish in second place.  Darby's time is only one tenth of a second from qualifying provisionally for nationals.  Darby also ran a 22.16 in the 200 meter dash.  Both runs were personal bests.

On the women's side, Chelsale Hester ran season bests in the 100 meter dash (13.27) and the 200 meter dash (27.14).  Tia Immel also had season best runs in the same two runs with times of 13.40 and 28.23. 

Krystal Patton competed in the 5K for the first time and finished in third place.

Coach Matt Hayes comments, "I was very pleased with our performances.  There is no doubt that we made a big step in the right direction.  I'm very excited to see what we can do at the Mason-Dixon Conference Championships on May 5th and 6th."
