Duane Ross, Director of Track & Field and Cross Country

Duane Ross recently completed his first year as the Head Coach for the Men and Women’s Track and Field Program. He begins his second year as the head coach while adding additional duties as the Director of Men and Women’s Track and Field and Cross Country.

The Monarchs had an outstanding first season under Ross as they accomplished 19 All-Conference honors during the indoor season and 19 All-Conference honors during the outdoor season. The Monarchs finished the 2008 Indoor season with Tazz Petty earning All-American honors in the 55 meter dash. The outdoor season brought even more success as the Monarch qualified five athletes for the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Tazz Petty would earn his second All-American honor during the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 100 meter dash. Methodist was just one of two schools across all divisions with three sprinters competing in the 100 meter dash at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. The Monarchs saw three school records broken and every athlete on the team achieve a personal best in their events during the 2007-2008 seasons.

Ross joined the Monarchs after completing his professional career as an Olympian, world class sprinter and assistant track and field coach in the sprints and hurdles. Ross competed as a professional hurdler while qualifying for the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece. Ross was a silver medalist at the 2004 Olympic Trials and earned a bronze medal at the 1999 World Championships. He is also a two-time U.S. Champion and two-times U.S. Silver Medalist. He was consistently ranked top ten in the world in his event throughout his career.

Ross began his coaching career at his alma mater, Clemson University in 1996 as a volunteer assistant coach before serving as a consultant in the sprints and hurdles at North Carolina State University.

Ross has his USA Track and Field Level 1 certification. He also serves on the Board of Directors for North Carolina-USA Track and Field in addition to the Wake County Council for Fitness and Health.

Ross attended high school in Dallas, North Carolina before attending Clemson University where he would become a seven-time All-American, Five-Time ACC Champion and NCAA Champion. Ross resides in Garner, NC. He graduated from Clemson in 1996 with a degree in Financial Management and a minor in Accounting.

Bill Dunn, Assistant Coach

Bill Dunn begins his second year as Assistant Track and Field Coach for the Methodist Monarchs.

Prior to joining forces with Ross and becoming the Assistant Coach, Bill Dunn's coaching career started in 2002 when he began working with several youth organizations such as the Carolina Eagles Track and Field Club and the Track Xplosion Track and Field Club. His passion for developing athletes ranging from four year olds to adults has made him a well known force within the USA Track and Field and AAU track and field community. He has assisted in the development and coaching of more than ten Junior Olympic National Champions. His expertise in mid-distance and long-distance running made him the perfect fit for Methodist University.

Bill Dunn attended High School in Kinston, North Carolina were he was a stand out track athlete. After graduation he attended Shawnee State University. He also did his tour of duty in the US Navy before returning to North Carolina. Coach Dunn has his USATF Level 1 certification. He currently resides in Raleigh, North Carolina.
