Monarchs
finish second, Lady Monarchs seventh at
Washington & Lee Invitational
LEXINGTON, Va.
– The 2005
outdoor portion of the track and field season
started successfully for both the Methodist men’s
and women’s teams on Saturday at the
Washington & Lee Invitational. The Monarchs
finished a strong second, while the Lady
Monarchs finished tied for seventh.
The Methodist men
finished with 84 points, second only to West
Virginia Wesleyan in the nine-team field. The
Lady Monarchs scored 12 points, the same as
Bridgewater in the nine-team field.
For the Monarchs,
there were four individual and relay champions.
Taz Petty won the men’s 100-meter dash with a
time of 11.04, while Mike Hill won the men’s
200-meter dash in 22.50. In the men’s hammer
throw, the Monarchs’ Anthony Trofe prevailed
in a throw of 153-07 feet. In addition,
Methodist also won the men’s 4x100-meter relay
event with a time of 42.95.
Other top
finishes for the Monarchs include Hill placing
second in the men’s long jump with a distance
of 18-9.5 feet, and David Leonard finished
second in the men’s 110-meter hurdles in 16.81
seconds. Recording third place finishes were
Brad Woods in the men’s 100-meter dash in
11.36 and the long jump in a distance of 18-3
feet, and DeVonne Armstrong in the men’s shot
put with a throw of 42-10 feet.
In addition,
Armstrong also placed fourth in the men’s
discus with a throw of 127-11 feet, while Adonis
Stanley placed fifth in the men’s 200-meter
dash in 23.76.
For the Lady
Monarchs, Meg Coe finished second in the shot
put with a distance of 38-10 feet and fourth in
the discus with a throw of 101-9 feet. In
addition, Tiffany Campbell finished ninth in the
shot put with a throw of 28-06 feet, and Krystal
Patton finished 18th in the women’s
1,500-meter run in 5:53.37.
Methodist’s
next meet is the Clemson Relays on Mar. 25-26.
